Sprint Supports Macbooks, Powerbooks, and IMacs
Updated 2/8/08

Sprint is now officially supporting their Mobile Broadband USB Card services for Apple computer users, and we are successfully installing EVDO cards in Macbooks and Powerbooks across the country.

Novatel Wireless and Sprint released the Ovation U720 on December 5th, and since then thousands of laptop users have joined the Mobile Broadband Network and are enjoying broadband speeds on the go. Now support for Apple computer users has expanded:Macbook USB EVDO Card

  • PowerBook G4 with PC Card (PCMCIA Type II) slot
    • For use with Novatel Wireless Merlin S720.
    • Note: PowerBook computers are Motorola PowerPC-based.

  • PowerBook G4, MacBook, MacBook Pro, and iMac with USB port
    • For use with Novatel Wireless Ovation U720.
    • Note: MacBook, MacBook Pro, and iMac computers are Intel-based.

  • PowerBook G4 with PC Card (PCMCIA Type II slot and ExpressCard adapter), and MacBook Pro with ExpressCard slot
    • For use with Novatel Wireless Merlin EX720.

Sierra Watcher Lite, an application that supports the Sierra Wireless AirCard 595 on Apple PowerBook G4 computers running OS X 10.4.8 and above, is currently available at www.sprint.com/downloads.

As has been the case up to this point, connections cards to be used in Apple computers must first be unlocked, activated, and/or updated on a personal computer running Microsoft Windows XP.

Macbook users can order with confidence from the Mobile Broadband Network, and enjoy speeds up to 3Mbps on the Sprint PowerVision Network.

Comments from Macbook Users:
"I did manage to find the "unofficial" driver package... and am up and running."

"When I followed the instructions exactly, it worked!"

What is EVDO and this Mobile Broadband Network?
EVDO is the wireless technology behind Sprint's PowerVision network. It's similar to wi-fi, but operates on a different frequency. Wi-fi signals work up to 300 feet, thus the term "hot spot". EVDO signals carry for a few miles. So Sprint turns entire cities into "hot spots". Sprint's hot spot covers over 168 million people in the USA. Check for coverage in your area.
